Donald Trump threatened Elon Musk with deportation amid their feud over the “Big Beautiful Bill.” Musk, once a Trump ally, has sharply criticized the bill and suggested forming a new party. Trump responded with threats to end subsidies and contracts, escalating the conflict into a high-stakes political standoff.

US President Donald Trump issued a public warning to tech billionaire Elon Musk, suggesting he should “close up shop” and return to South Africa, amid a growing political and personal fallout. The latest clash between the two stems from Musk’s vocal criticism of Trump’s flagship economic legislation, the “Big Beautiful Bill,” and the resulting war of words has taken a dramatic turn.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Musk of hypocrisy, saying he benefited more from government subsidies than anyone in history while simultaneously attacking federal programs. “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history… without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Trump wrote. He added that halting Musk’s projects could save the country “a fortune.”

The feud began in early June when Musk denounced the “Big Beautiful Bill” as a “disgusting abomination,” slamming its rising deficit and rollback of electric vehicle (EV) tax incentives. Since then, Musk has intensified his criticism, calling the bill “utterly insane” and even hinting at launching a new political outfit, the “America Party,” to challenge both Republicans and Democrats.

Trump, once an ally who appointed Musk as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), responded by threatening to pull government contracts and subsidies from Musk’s ventures, including Tesla and SpaceX. In retaliation, Musk accused Trump of betrayal and suggested that without his influence, Trump would not have won the presidency. He even hinted at suspending NASA-linked operations and briefly floated damaging allegations against Trump before retracting them.

With both titans refusing to back down, the standoff between Trump and Musk is now as political as it is personal—highlighting a deepening rift within American power circles.
