Donald Trump, now the oldest president ever sworn into office, is set to undergo a medical checkup at Walter Reed. It marks the first formal health update in over a year. Despite past secrecy around his medical records, a report is expected to follow Friday’s examination.

Former President Donald Trump, now 78 and in his second term, will undergo a medical checkup at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday, marking the first detailed public update on his health in over a year. Posting on his social media platform, Trump wrote, “I have never felt better, but nevertheless, these things must be done!” This physical is especially notable given Trump’s return to the White House in January, making him the oldest president to be sworn in, five months older than Biden was at his first inauguration.
Despite his frequent criticism of political opponents’ health, Trump has kept much of his own medical history out of the public eye. The last time Americans saw a formal update was in November 2023, when a letter from Dr. Bruce A. Aronwald described Trump’s health as “excellent” but offered no metrics like weight, blood pressure, or cholesterol.
His health became a greater point of public interest after an assassination attempt in July 2024. Instead of releasing a formal medical record, Trump’s former White House doctor and ally, Rep. Ronny Jackson, issued a brief memo noting a gunshot wound to his right ear.
Throughout his presidency, Trump has often favored less conventional or private routes to release medical information. From surprise visits to Walter Reed to remote Fox News evaluations, he’s faced criticism for lacking transparency.

His 2025 checkup comes amid renewed calls for both presidential candidates to fully disclose their medical fitness. Whether this visit will offer more transparency remains to be seen, but it’s the first opportunity for a formal medical assessment since Trump returned to office.
