Tyre Nichols Killed by The US Memphis Police for Being Black

The New York City is vehemently expressing its rage over the killing of  Nichols, a black American in the hands of 5 Memphis policemen on 7th January 2023. Tyre was beaten to death at a mere distance of 80 yards from his house in front of a traffic signal after being pulled out from his car. 1. It can be noticed that Nichols did not show any resistance from the police initially and thus, the Memphis police used excessive force unjustifiably.
2. Tyre Nichols cried out “Mom! Mom!” before succumbing to the brutal kicks and blows from the Memphis police.
3. The Memphis police continuously hurled abuses at Tyre Nichols, whose limbs were being held so that he could make no movements.
4. The ambulance for Tyre Nichols arrived 20 minutes late.

The Memphis Police on The Issue The 5 officers namely Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills Jr, Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith have been fired from the Memphis police service. The department also said that the officers had violated multiple protocols such as excessive usage of force. The reason why Tyre Nichols was interrogated by the police that night is also not clear as of now. President Joe Biden on the Tyre Nichols Murder Joe Biden expressed his heartfelt remorse by saying, “It is yet another painful reminder of the profound fear and trauma, the pain, and the exhaustion that Black and Brown Americans experience every single day.” The issue of George Floyd, another black who was killed in 2020 leading to the movement, “Black Lives Matter” has been recalled by many protestors after the death of Tyre Nichols.
