Uddhav and Raj Thackeray reunited after 20 years at a massive Marathi rally in Mumbai, celebrating the Maharashtra government’s rollback on mandatory Hindi. The event drew thousands and may signal a new political partnership, with both leaders emphasizing Marathi identity ahead of upcoming local elections.

Mumbai is witnessing a historic political moment as estranged cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray come together on one stage after two decades. The long-anticipated reunion is taking place at the NSCI Dome in Worli, where the atmosphere is charged with slogans, placards, and a packed hall of enthusiastic supporters.
The rally, titled ‘Awaj Marathicha’ or ‘Voice of Marathi’, was announced after the Maharashtra government reversed its controversial decision to make Hindi mandatory as a third language in primary schools. This rollback triggered widespread support and brought together the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), setting the stage for a potential political collaboration.
Both leaders arrived at the venue amid loud cheers and waving banners, while supporters wore masks of the Thackeray cousins in a show of solidarity. Though the auditorium holds around 8,000 people, thousands more have gathered outside, watching the proceedings on large LED screens.
Marathi filmmaker Ajit Bhure is hosting the event, which many within both parties are calling a “festival for Maharashtra.” Senior leaders from both sides say the rally is more than just a celebration—it’s symbolic of a new chapter in Maharashtra politics, especially with local body elections on the horizon.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut and MNS representatives have called the event a “historic moment” for the Marathi-speaking community. The massive turnout and emotional energy reflect public eagerness for unity in leadership and the preservation of Marathi identity.
Whether this marks a long-term alliance remains to be seen, but today’s event has already made political waves across the state.
