A woman from Saharanpur has accused her in-laws of injecting her with an HIV-infected syringe over unmet dowry demands. A case has been filed against four individuals, including her husband. The police are investigating the allegations, which highlight the persistent issue of dowry-related violence in India.

A woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur has accused her in-laws of injecting her with an HIV-infected syringe after she failed to meet their dowry demands. The shocking allegation has led to the registration of a case against four individuals, including her husband and brother-in-law.
According to the complaint filed by the woman’s parents, she married Abhishek from Uttarakhand’s Haridwar on February 15, 2023. Despite giving cash, jewellery, and a car as dowry, the in-laws allegedly demanded a bigger car and an additional ₹25 lakh. When the demands were not met, they reportedly subjected her to physical and mental harassment before expelling her from their home.
Her parents also claimed that the in-laws administered "random medicines" to her, which led to a decline in her health. A medical examination later confirmed that she was HIV positive. Suspecting foul play, the woman’s family accused her in-laws of deliberately injecting her with an HIV-infected syringe.
Following an order from the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, a case was registered on February 11 under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder), the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, and the Dowry Prohibition Act.
