The U.S. chartered a flight to deport Indian nationals staying illegally, as part of a cooperative effort with the Indian government. DHS warned against smuggler misinformation and encouraged lawful entry pathways, emphasizing its commitment to curbing unauthorized immigration.

The United States recently chartered a flight to deport Indian nationals who were residing in the country illegally, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This deportation was part of a broader cooperation with the Indian government to address unauthorized immigration. The chartered flight was sent to India on October 22, the DHS stated on Friday.
Kristie A. Canegallo, a senior DHS official, emphasized that Indian nationals without a legal basis for U.S. residence face swift removal. She warned against the misinformation spread by smugglers, urging migrants to avoid illegal entry and instead pursue lawful pathways.

This deportation effort aligns with the U.S. government’s recent policy, under the June 2024 Securing the Border Presidential Proclamation and Interim Final Rule, which has reduced illegal crossings along the U.S.-Mexico border by 55%. In fiscal year 2024, DHS reported deporting over 160,000 people via 495 flights to more than 145 countries, including India. DHS collaborates internationally to facilitate these repatriations, aiming to reduce irregular migration and hold smugglers accountable.
