Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar strongly criticized remarks made by Rahul Gandhi during his US visit, particularly regarding the India-China border conflict. Without naming Gandhi, Dhankhar condemned those who "ridicule nationalism" and become "part of enemies of the nation." The BJP also attacked Gandhi for meeting US lawmaker Ilhan Omar.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has issued a stern rebuke of what appears to be comments made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi during his recent visit to the United States. Without naming Gandhi directly, Dhankhar expressed his deep concern and disappointment over remarks he deemed detrimental to India's national interests.
Addressing participants of the Rajya Sabha Internship Programme, Dhankhar stated, "I am pained and disturbed that some people in position have just no idea of Bharat. They have no idea of our Constitution, they have no idea of our national interest." He emphasized the sacrifices made for India's freedom, saying, "We can't ridicule our nationalism."
The Vice President's comments come in the wake of Gandhi's press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, where the Congress leader criticized the Modi government's handling of the border conflict with China. Gandhi had claimed that Chinese troops occupy 4,000 square kilometers of Indian territory in Ladakh, describing the situation as a "disaster."
Dhankhar's rebuke was particularly sharp when he said, "Nothing can be more condemnable, despicable and intolerable than that you become part of enemies of the nation." He added that if one were a "true Indian," they would never side with the nation's enemies.
The BJP has also attacked Gandhi for meeting with US lawmaker Ilhan Omar, accusing him of engaging in "dangerous and mischievous" activities by reaching out to individuals known for their anti-India stance.
