Authorities in Massachusetts have arrested 22-year-old Gregory Groom, the boyfriend of missing pregnant teenager Kylee Monteiro, after human remains believed to be hers were discovered on his property in Rehoboth. Groom is expected to face a murder charge, alongside several assault-related charges already pending against him.
Monteiro, 18, was reported missing on August 7. She was eleven weeks pregnant and had recently graduated from Attleboro High School. Groom himself had initially reported her disappearance, but investigators soon turned their focus to him. On searching his property with a warrant, Massachusetts State Police found remains consistent with Monteiro’s description. Confirmation is pending from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
District Attorney Thomas Quinn revealed that Groom had assaulted Monteiro a day before she went missing. He has been charged with aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery, and witness intimidation, allegedly committed on August 6. He is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Wednesday, August 20.
Monteiro’s family and friends said she had expressed fear shortly before vanishing. A friend recalled her saying she did not feel safe, while her sister Faith Monteiro confirmed domestic issues between Kylee and Groom. Faith also noted that Groom’s family owns 26 acres of undeveloped land, raising concerns during the search.
