Yogi Adityanath slammed Mamata Banerjee for her silence on Murshidabad violence, accusing her of appeasement and ignoring riots over the Waqf Act. With three deaths reported and central forces deployed, the BJP has blamed the state government for failing to act. Mamata appealed for calm, attributing the law to the Centre.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has strongly condemned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her response to the recent violent unrest in Murshidabad. Addressing the media, Adityanath alleged that the West Bengal government has remained silent while widespread clashes unfolded over the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The unrest, which reportedly led to the deaths of three individuals and the displacement of dozens, has sparked criticism across the political spectrum.

“Bengal is burning, and the chief minister calls rioters ‘messengers of peace’,” Adityanath said, claiming that the situation demanded strict intervention rather than passive statements. He accused the state administration of allowing lawlessness to prevail under the guise of secularism and stated that force was the only language such elements would understand.

The Uttar Pradesh leader also praised the Calcutta High Court for its decision to deploy central forces in the region to ensure the safety of minority Hindus. He criticised the Congress and the Samajwadi Party for remaining silent on the issue, suggesting that their inaction reflected selective concern.

Visuals from Murshidabad revealed extensive damage, with houses and shops torched amid escalating protests. Additional violence was reported from South 24 Parganas’ Bhangar, where similar tensions over the Waqf law erupted. West Bengal Police have arrested over 150 individuals and stated that the situation is under control.

Chief Minister Banerjee, in a social media statement, appealed for peace and clarified that the Waqf law was introduced by the central government, not the state. Despite this, the BJP has accused her party of appeasement politics and failing to protect displaced Hindu families. The political confrontation shows no signs of easing as law enforcement continues efforts to stabilise the affected districts.
