A US military aircraft carrying 104 deported Indian nationals landed in Amritsar, marking an intensified crackdown on illegal immigration. The deportees, originating from various Indian states, were repatriated under President Trump’s stricter policies. India has agreed to facilitate the return of its undocumented nationals from the US.
Amritsar witnessed the arrival of 104 Indian nationals deported from the United States on Wednesday. A US military C-17 aircraft transported the deportees, marking one of the longest deportation flights undertaken by US authorities.
Michael W Banks, the United States Border Patrol (USBP) chief, released a video showing the deportees in shackles as they boarded the flight. Banks stated that the mission reflected the US government's firm stance on illegal immigration and reiterated that those entering the country unlawfully would face removal.
The deported individuals included 30 from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, three from Maharashtra, three from Uttar Pradesh, and two from Chandigarh. They were flown from San Antonio, Texas, to Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar.
This deportation comes as part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration under President Donald Trump's second term. Since January 20, the US has accelerated deportation efforts, using military aircraft to repatriate undocumented migrants to various countries, including Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras.
India has become one of the farthest destinations for such deportation operations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar previously stated that India would facilitate the return of its nationals overstaying or residing without proper documentation in foreign countries.
