High-Security Registration Plates

Chandigarh traffic police have retrieved a total of 76 High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) that were washed away during the recent heavy rainfall and flooding in the Union Territory. Following the reduction of water levels, the recovered number plates were brought to the Chandigarh Traffic Park in Sector-23. So far, 36 individuals have collected their plates, while 121 people have approached the authorities regarding their missing HSRPs.

The torrential rain and subsequent flooding caused significant damage to cars, resulting in the loss of number plates due to the force of the fast-moving water. Some of the recovered plates were found stuck in drains, secluded areas near traffic points, and even with a scrap dealer who was charging individuals for returning their plates. Before returning the HSRPs, the traffic police are verifying the Registration Certificates (RC) of the respective vehicles.

76 Recovered
The traffic police said they have found 76 HSRPs after the water level started reducing three days ago.

DSP (Traffic) Jaswinder Singh stated that 34 people have already been reunited with their number plates, but they believe many more plates may still be scattered in drains and other areas. The police are urging citizens to hand over any recovered plates to the local police station.

Jagroop Singh, a policeman, mentioned that the UT traffic police cycle squad found the number plates as the water levels receded. They also discovered over two dozen plates with a scrap dealer who was exploiting individuals seeking their lost plates. The police promptly confiscated the plates.
