70 Bomb Threats in 6 Days: Aviation Body Investigates Root Causes

Amid nearly 70 hoax bomb threats to Indian airlines in recent days, officials from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security met with airline representatives to address security concerns. Director General Zulfiqar Hasan reassured the public about safety protocols and emphasized the need for vigilance. The threats have caused operational disruptions and significant financial losses, prompting government investigations and plans to increase air marshal deployment.
The Indian aviation sector is on high alert following nearly 70 hoax bomb threats received by airlines in recent days. In response, officials from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) convened with airline representatives at their headquarters in Delhi to address the growing concerns.
Airline leaders highlighted the security challenges posed by the threats, particularly with the festive season approaching, which could exacerbate congestion at airports. BCAS Director General Zulfiqar Hasan emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols and assured attendees that measures are in place to ensure passenger safety.
Hasan reassured the public, stating, "Indian skies are absolutely safe," and urged passengers to travel without fear, as the current safety protocols are robust. Despite this, the hoax threats have led to significant operational disruptions, including flight diversions and re-screenings of passengers, resulting in major inconveniences and financial losses for airlines estimated in crores.

The government is actively pursuing investigations into the threats, with civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu confirming that law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring the situation.
