When the senior AAP leaders staged a
sit-in protest against Arvind Kejriwal’s summons in the excise policy case,
they were “detained” by the Delhi Police.
In order
to determine the party’s future line of action after the aforementioned
incident, the AAP called an “emergency meeting” of its office-holders on
Sunday.
Gopal Rai, the convenor of the AAP’s Delhi unit, presided over the meeting which was also attended by Jasmine Shah, the party’s national secretary, Shelly Oberoi, and Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal.
AAP spokesperson Adil Ahmad Khan, its
general secretary Pankaj Gupta, Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha,
Delhi ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj, Atishi, and Kailash Gahlot, and a few
ministers from the Punjab government were among those detained.
According to a notice released by the
agency, Kejriwal was called to the CBI’s headquarters to testify as a witness inwitness in the excise policy case and answer questions from the investigating team.
In connection with the investigation,
Manish Sisodia, Kejriwal’s former deputy in the Delhi government, was detained
last month. The matter has been referred to as a plot against its leaders by
the AAP.
The claims concern the excise policy
of the Delhi government for 2021-2022. The CBI is looking into claims that
alcohol dealers paid bribes to get licenses. Despite the AAP's vigorous denial
of these accusations, the government later changed its mind about the proposal.
