Army Jawan on Leave Abducted and Killed in Manipur

An Indian Army jawan, identified as Serto Thangthang Kom, aged 41, was abducted and tragically killed while he was on leave in Manipur.
His lifeless body was discovered on the morning of September 17 at Khuningthek Village, east of Mongjam, under the jurisdiction of the Sogolmang police station in Imphal East.
The jawan, serving in the Defense Service Corps, was stationed at Leimakhong in the Kangpokpi hill district. He was abducted from his residence in Tarung, Neikanlong, Happy Valley, Imphal West.
According to a Defense source, the abduction occurred at around 10 a.m. on September 16. Kom's ten-year-old son was the sole eyewitness to the crime. Three unidentified individuals entered their home while they were working on the porch, threatened Kom with a pistol, and forcibly took him away in a white vehicle.
For an agonizing period, there was no information about his whereabouts. On Sunday, his lifeless body was found around 9.30 a.m. at Khuningthek Village in Imphal East, confirming his identity through his relatives. Tragically, the soldier had been murdered with a single gunshot to his head. The postmortem report is awaited.
Serto Thangthang Kom had a wife, daughter, and a son. The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), Kangpokpi, revealed that he had voluntarily retired from the 8th Assam Regiment before being re-engaged in the DSC at Leimakhong.
No arrests have been made in Kom's abduction and killing case as of now. The Army has dispatched a team to assist the grieving family, and the investigation is ongoing.
