Muslim Cleric Arrested for Allegedly Killing 12-Year-Old Madrasa Student in Assam's Cachar District
In a swift response to a distressing incident, Assam Police have taken into custody an 'imam' - a religious leader in Islam - suspected of involvement in the murder of a 12-year-old student at a madrasa in Cachar district.
The victim's lifeless body was discovered with a slit throat in the Darus Salam Hafizia and Alia Madrassa located in Hawaithang of Lailapur.
Following the grim discovery, the student's roommates alerted authorities when their attempts to wake him up for early morning prayers unveiled the tragedy.
Cachar Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, disclosed that the friends of the deceased found him dead on Sunday morning.
‘‘Early findings from the investigation indicate that the incident likely occurred between the hours of 3 and 4 am,’’ he added.
The accused, identified as Mukchil Rehman Khan and also an 'imam' at the madrasa, is currently in police custody. Although he has not admitted guilt, eyewitness testimonies reportedly implicate Khan in the killing that transpired within the madrasa's dormitory.
The authorities have charged Khan with murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement continues to probe the details surrounding the tragic demise of the young student, emphasising the need for justice and clarity in the unsettling case.
