Atishi Poised to Become Delhi’s Next Chief Minister as Kejriwal Proposes Her Name

Delhi minister Atishi is set to become the next Chief Minister of Delhi after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal nominated her as his successor in a key party meeting. During the meeting, which included the party's legislative wing, Kejriwal’s proposal received unanimous support from AAP lawmakers, solidifying Atishi’s position.

The decision comes ahead of Kejriwal’s expected resignation, which he will submit at 4:30 pm today. AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bhardwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, and Dalit representatives Rakhi Birla and Kuldeep Kumar, were also considered for the role. Speculation had also surrounded Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita, as a possible candidate. However, Atishi emerged as the consensus choice after Kejriwal held individual discussions with top AAP leaders, seeking their input on the leadership transition.

Kejriwal’s resignation follows the Supreme Court’s decision to grant him bail in the ongoing excise policy case. Kejriwal stated that he is ready to face trial and is confident of his innocence, declaring that he will only return as chief minister if the people of Delhi mandate it in next year’s elections.
