Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Maharashtra for illegal stay

Two brothers from Bangladesh have been arrested in Maharashtra’s Palghar district for illegally residing in the area without valid passports and visas, as reported by an official on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the police visited the Chandansar Road neighborhood in Virar on Saturday and discovered the two individuals staying there unlawfully.

The suspects, identified as Soheb Mutalebi Shaikh and Rahim Mutalebi Shaikh, were unable to present proper documentation for their stay in India.

They had been residing in the country for approximately 10 to 12 years, working as laborers. Interestingly, they managed to obtain Aadhaar cards through an agent.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the brothers had fled poverty and unemployment in Bangladesh. They successfully evaded a patrolling team in Hakimpur, West Bengal, and eventually arrived in Mumbai via Howrah in search of employment opportunities.

Consequently, they have been charged under various acts, including the Foreigners Act, the Registration of Foreigners Act, and the Passport (Entry into India) Act.

In a separate incident, two Bangladeshi nationals from Narail were arrested in Nerul by the Navi Mumbai police for residing illegally in the country. The individuals had been living without valid passports and visas in Nerul Gaon’s chawl for the past year.

The police apprehended them during a routine inspection, and legal action has been initiated against them under the Passports Act and Foreigners Act.

Furthermore, three individuals have been reported to the Navi Mumbai police for allegedly employing minors as laborers. The anti-human trafficking cell officials discovered that two garage owners in Vahalgaon, Ulwe, had engaged two underage individuals, aged 16 and 17, in strenuous and hazardous tasks. These perpetrators are now facing legal consequences for exploiting child labor.
