The India
Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided an update on the cyclonic storm
named "Biparjoy." According to IMD's latest announcement on Sunday,
the storm has intensified and transformed into an "Extremely Severe
Cyclonic Storm" (ESCS).
In a tweet, the
IMD stated that Biparjoy has further strengthened and is now classified as an
'Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm.' As of 5:30 am, the storm's center was
located approximately 480 km South-Southwest of Porbandar in Gujarat, 530 km
South-Southwest of Dwarka, and 610 km South-Southwest of Naliya.
The IMD predicts
that the cyclonic storm will cross the coasts of Saurashtra and Kutch, and the
adjoining region of Pakistan between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan
around noon on June 15 as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm.
Although it is
expected that Cyclone Biparjoy will not directly hit the Indian coasts or make
landfall in India, the states of Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka have
been placed on alert to mitigate any potential impact from the passing cyclonic
storm.
Initially, it was
anticipated that the Biparjoy cyclone would make landfall in Pakistan. However,
the country's meteorological agency has now stated that it is unlikely to
occur. Nevertheless, authorities in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan
have been advised to remain vigilant and ensure public safety.
While the cyclone
is projected to pass at a distance of 200-300 km from Gujarat's Porbandar
coast, it is expected to bring thunderstorms and strong winds to the western
state over the next five days.
As a
precautionary measure, fishermen have been warned not to venture into the
Arabian Sea during the next five days, and all fishing activities have been
suspended.
To summarize, the
IMD has upgraded Cyclone Biparjoy to an "Extremely Severe Cyclonic
Storm," which is set to pass near the coasts of Saurashtra, Kutch, and
Pakistan. Although the cyclone is not expected to make landfall in India,
coastal states have been advised to remain alert due to the potential impact of
the storm. The situation will continue to be monitored closely, and precautions
are being taken to ensure the safety of the public, including the suspension of
fishing activities and warnings to fishermen in the region.
