Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody in the excise policy money laundering case has been extended to July 12 by the Rouse Avenue Court. The court will decide on July 6 regarding his request for his wife's presence during medical consultations.
There is a significant update in the Delhi excise policy probe today as the Rouse Avenue Court remands Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody till July 12, 2024. This decision is taken in connection with the money laundering case related to the now-aborted Delhi liquor excise policy of 2021-22.
The court proceedings, which were on Wednesday, also heard an application by Kejriwal. He also moved a particular board of AIIMS asking for his wife to be allowed to accompany him during medical consultations. This board was established after a court ruling on April 22. The bench has kept an open mind to this application and will give the decision on July 6.
Kejriwal is also the national convenor of the AAP, and has been in custody as the ED looks into charges of money laundering that is linked to the contentious liquor policy. The policy that the university administration rolled out in 2021 but later reversed has been the subject of political controversy in the federal capital.
This extension of custody is another episode in the legal drama connected with the excise policy case that has implicated several AAP leaders. The case is still ongoing, and it remains an object of political and public concern in Delhi and other regions.
The decision on Kejriwal’s plea in relation to his wife’s presence during consultations with the doctors has not been passed yet, further complicating this high-profile case. While the clocks tick closer to July 12, everyone is waiting for the next move from the Rouse Avenue Court, especially in this politically sensitive case.
