According to CNN, former US President Donald Trump completed the booking process at the Fulton County jail in Atlanta and has been released on bond. Jail records indicate that he was arrested and booked in connection with the Georgia election subversion case, spending approximately 20 minutes at the jail.
Donald Trump, addressing reporters upon his release, asserted, "I did nothing wrong," as reported by CNN. He characterized the criminal case against him as "a travesty of justice."
Donald Trump secured his release by agreeing to a USD 200,000 bond and accepting other release conditions, including refraining from using social media to intimidate co-defendants or witnesses in the case. These conditions had been previously negotiated by his attorneys.
To cover the bond cost, the former president, Donald Trump contributed 10 percent and collaborated with the local Atlanta bonding company, Foster Bail Bonds LLC, as informed by CNN sources.
This marked the first instance in Fulton County where Trump had to make a cash bail payment. In Georgia, the likelihood of him being released without a cash bail was low, especially considering that he was already facing three other felony indictments before being charged in this case.
Earlier on Thursday, CNN reported that Donald Trump voluntarily surrendered at the Fulton County jail in Atlanta to undergo booking for over a dozen charges related to his efforts to overturn Georgia's 2020 election results.
District Attorney Fani Willis (D) of Fulton County, Georgia, issued a deadline to Donald Trump and his 18 co-defendants, instructing them to voluntarily surrender by Friday at noon. This action followed their indictment by Willis the previous week.
A judge in charge of the case said it's okay for two of the people involved to pay some money and be released from jail. One of them, John Eastman, who helped plan a plan to trick people, agreed to pay $100,000. Another person, Scott Hall, who is accused of breaking into an elections office, agreed to pay $10,000. Last week, a person named Willis accused a group of 19 people of doing bad things, and this is the fourth time that Trump has been accused of something like this.
