On Saturday, 14th July, 2023, five kanwariyas were electrocuted to death when their vehicle brushed against a live 11KV power line and other 5 were injured.

 

The incident occurred in Bhawanpur's Rali Chauhan village, Meerut, UP. The DM stated that it took place when their DJ vehicle came in contact with the low-hanging high-tension power line. At the moment, the locals gathered at the site and rushed the pilgrims to hospital where doctors declared 5 of them dead and 2 of the 5 injured ones were announced to be critical.

A group of locals then gathered in the area and demanded action into the incident by holding a demonstration. The DM mentioned that the sufferers are being given necessary treatment and further investigation is underway.

 

Another accident occurred later on Sunday on a flyover in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, where a 38-year-old Kanwariya was injured after getting hit by a taxi. Dalip Kumar(57), driver accused, has been arrested by the Police.

 

The police said that, at 12:38 AM, a PCR call regarding the accident of Kanwariya on the flyover from Vasant Vihar to Mahipalpur was received at PS Delhi Cantt. The Addl. DCP-I, ACP, and SHO/ PS Delhi Cantt along with staff rushed to the spot on receipt of the call.

According to police, the injured victim, identified as Dharmendra, a resident of Mewat, Haryana, was shifted to AIIMS Delhi after receiving a minor injury to his head. The kanwariya received his treatment in AIIMS Trauma and was discharged later on.

 

The Police also stated that action was being taken under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act and further investigation is underway.
