Gujarat Congress will launch the 'Nyay Padyatra' on August 9 to highlight recent tragedies and alleged corruption under BJP rule. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge are expected to join the march from Morbi to Gandhinagar.
The Gujarat Congress is gearing up to launch a protest march, the 'Nyay Padyatra' (Justice March), on August 9. The march aims to draw attention to several tragic incidents that have occurred in the state and across the country over the past two years, including the Morbi bridge collapse, the TRP Game Zone fire in Rajkot, and the Harni Lake tragedy in Vadodara.
Leading the yatra will be Congress Seva Dal chief Lalji Desai, Gujarat Congress President Shaktisinh Gohil, and Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani. Senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and party president Mallikarjun Kharge are expected to join the march, which will start in Morbi and conclude in Gandhinagar on August 22.
The yatra seeks justice for the victims of recent tragedies in Gujarat. Gujarat Congress president Gohil emphasized the march's goal to highlight the systemic corruption and negligence within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government, which the Congress alleges are the root causes of these calamities.
The date of the yatra, August 9, is significant as it marks the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s Quit India Movement in 1942. "This Nyay Padyatra is our way of seeking justice for those who have suffered due to the BJP’s misgovernance and corruption," stated Shailesh Parmar, deputy leader in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

Starting in Morbi, the site of the bridge collapse that claimed 135 lives in October 2022, the march will proceed to Gandhinagar. The yatra will include 101 core participants and families of the victims, serving as a stark reminder of the human cost of alleged corrupt practices and misgovernance.
As the march progresses through various districts, the Congress plans to conduct Jan Samvad (public dialogue) sessions. Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi expressed hope that senior leaders, including Kharge, Rahul, and Priyanka, would participate in the yatra.
