A major fire engulfed a multi-storey building in Delhi's Mayur Vihar, damaging a cafe and uniform shop. Firefighters battled the blaze for over 10 hours, rescuing one person and sustaining one injury. The fire is now under control.
A major fire incident occurred this late Sunday night at Mayur Vihar Phase 2 in Delhi, spreading through a multi-story building with a cafe and uniform manufacturing shop. The fire, originating at Jung cafe near the Neelam Mata Temple, engulfed all the three floors of the building.
The Disaster Control Room of the Delhi Fire Service received the distress call at 11:40 PM and rushed 23 fire fighting tender trucks to the spot. It has taken over 10 hours for the firefighters to put out the fire and they have struggled to put out the fire since the building had a bad ventilation system.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer SK Dua stated that at least one person was successfully evacuated from the building rooftop. But it was a pricey operation for the firefighters; one of them was injured during the rescue. Thankfully, there are no reports of people who lived in the building and died in the unfortunate incident.
Dua said that there was no provision of any form of ventilation and therefore the fire was able to spread all over the place. He said that nearly about 12 to 15 shops have been damaged in the fire incident .
Local people only realized that there was fire and this made them call the attention of everyone to get out of the building and the cafe. Fire fighters were deployed on the scene within an hour of the first report.
The fire has also affected the objects and structures of the cafe and the uniform shop and it also destroyed them and the structure of the building. Rocky images of the scene clearly indicate the devastation that has occurred.
Fire officials reported this Friday morning that the fire is now contained and under control as of Monday morning. However, the yet to be established cause of the fire, has led to the loss of several lives.

This unfortunate event is a clear example of what can happen when commercial buildings do not have adequate fire prevention measures and fire safety facilities or insufficient ventilation systems. The relevant authorities may require re-strategising on fire prevention mechanisms in the area to avoid such mishaps in future.
