According to a statement released on Friday, police characterized Tauseef Ali Farooqui, a fourth-year biotechnology student at the Indian Institute of Technology in Guwahati, as an introvert who didn't interact with others much on campus. He was arrested last week on charges of swearing allegiance to the Islamic State.
Farooqui was placed to 10 days of police custody by Guwahati court officials on Friday. When the police escorted him to his hostel room, they found a manuscript and a black flag that resembled the banner of the Islamic State.
The ambitions of Farooqui to join the terrorist group Islamic State in Khorasan were made public by the email and his social media sites.
According to Delhi police, Farooqui was put under search and seizure after he wrote an open letter on LinkedIn outlining his reasoning for the choice.
However, upon informing the administration of the Indian Institute of Technology in Guwahati, the police discovered that the student was "missing" and that his phone had been turned off.
About thirty kilometers from Guwahati, near Hajo, Farooqui was discovered on March 23. He was arrested right away and put under questioning.
The parents of Farooqui reside in the Zakir Nagar neighborhood of Delhi. His arrest came quickly, and they immediately left for Guwahati.
