Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military targets, claiming success in a response to prior Iranian attacks. Iran reported intercepting some attacks with limited damage, vowing a “proportional” response. The U.S. warned against escalation, stating it would support Israel if hostilities persist.
The Middle East is on high alert following Israel's recent airstrikes on military targets in Iran, marking a significant escalation in tensions between the two nations. Israel confirmed it launched multiple strikes in response to ongoing Iranian military actions against Israel, with targets reportedly including missile manufacturing sites. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) later announced that their operation had ended and that objectives were met.
In response, Iran’s air defense systems intercepted several of the attacks over Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces, reporting only limited damage. Iranian officials have stated their intention to issue a “proportional reaction,” raising fears of further conflict. Tehran has already canceled flights, and neighboring Iraq has taken similar precautions.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with senior Israeli officials, monitored the mission from a military command center in Tel Aviv. The strikes follow Iran's recent missile attacks on Israeli territories, part of ongoing clashes tied to regional support for armed groups like Hezbollah. Following the strikes, the U.S. emphasized a commitment to defending Israel, stating that the current exchange of fire could cease if no further provocations occur from Tehran.

These developments come shortly after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's tour of the region, where American officials warned Israel against actions that could trigger a larger conflict. Despite this, two U.S. officials confirmed they were notified by Israel before the strikes.
