In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old woman from Nidagundi taluk, Karnataka, allegedly killed her four children by throwing them into a canal before attempting suicide on Monday. Police suspect the act was driven by a family dispute over property.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Balappa Nandagavi, the tragic event occurred around 11:30 am. The family, traveling to a temple on a motorcycle, ran out of petrol near the canal. The woman’s husband went to fetch fuel, leaving her and the children behind. When he returned, he discovered his children missing. Fishermen at the canal informed him that his wife had thrown the children into the water and jumped in herself.

Fishermen managed to save the woman and rushed her to Nidagundi Government Hospital. She was later transferred to Vijayapura District Hospital for further treatment. Tragically, only two of the four children's bodies have been recovered so far, with search operations ongoing for the remaining two.

Preliminary investigations suggest a dispute over property may have led to the incident. Police have registered a case under Section 103 of the Karnataka BNS Act for murder and are probing further into the matter.

The incident has left the local community in shock, raising questions about mental health support and conflict resolution mechanisms in family disputes.
