The rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital continues to draw national attention as new developments emerge. Indian-origin doctors have written an open letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling the incident a "systemic failure" and urging her to ensure the safety of medical professionals.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe, with former hospital principal Sandip Ghosh arriving at the CBI office for questioning. Meanwhile, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been deployed at the hospital to enhance security measures and prevent potential mob attacks.

The autopsy report revealed that the victim was smothered to death, with 16 external and nine internal injury marks found on her body. The mother-in-law of the accused, Sanjoy Roy, suggested that he could not have committed the crime alone, hinting at the potential involvement of others.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for August 22, after issuing orders to create a national taskforce to address the safety and security of medical professionals. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has expressed its intention to work closely with this panel.

Political reactions continue to pour in, with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan criticizing the West Bengal government's handling of the case as "insensitive." Protests have spread across the state, with Congress workers holding a candlelight march in Siliguri demanding justice for rape victims.

As the investigation progresses, the CBI has debunked a fake letter circulating on social media, emphasizing the need for accurate information dissemination in this sensitive case.
