India Joins Global Efforts to Study Gravitational Waves with LIGO Project

LIGO, one of many labs worldwide, is specifically created to identify gravitational waves - the distortions in space and time that result from the movements of massive celestial objects.

The discovery of these waves has been a long-standing mystery in the scientific community, and their first detection in 2015 by LIGO in the United States earned a Nobel Prize in Physics.

Now, India is set to join the search with its own LIGO facility, located in Maharashtra's Hingoli district. With a whopping budget of Rs 2,600 crore, LIGO-India will become the fifth node of the global network, joining the United States, Europe, and Japan.
