Maharashtra government has officially renamed Aurangabad and Osmanabad Revenue Divisions as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv Revenue Divisions.
In this regard, the government has also issued a notification for the both revenue Divisions which are located in the Marathwada region.
The development comes after the suggestions and objections that took place several months ago, the Maharashtra Revenue Department took them into consideration and thoroughly reviewed them.
As a result, they have now officially decided to change the names at multiple administrative levels, including sub-division, village, taluka, and district levels.
This decision was communicated through a notification issued by the Revenue Department on Friday night.
The renaming of Aurangabad and Osmanabad was a significant decision taken during the last cabinet meeting of the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
This meeting, which occurred on June 29, 2022, was chaired by the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. It marked one of the final actions of his government before he resigned from his position.
In 2022, the government, under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, obtained the approval of the cabinet for the renaming of the cities of Aurangabad and Osmanabad in the month of July.
This year, the central government, specifically the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), approved the proposal, stating that it had "no objection" to changing the names of Aurangabad and Osmanabad.
