West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee emphasized that TMC’s leadership succession will be decided collectively, reflecting the party’s inclusive ethos. Amid reports of rifts between senior and younger leaders, she highlighted grassroots workers’ pivotal role in elections and reaffirmed unity as essential for the party's continued success under evolving leadership.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has reiterated that the decision on her successor as Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader will be a collective one, emphasizing that no single individual defines the party. In an interview with News18 Bangla, she stated, “I am not the party; 'we' are the party. It is a collective family, and decisions will be made collectively.”
Her remarks come amidst reports of an internal divide between senior leaders loyal to Banerjee and younger leaders aligned with her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, the TMC's national general secretary. Addressing this speculation, she underscored the importance of unity within the party, stating, “Today’s newcomer will be tomorrow’s veteran,” indicating the need for mutual respect and collaboration across all levels.
Banerjee also commented on the role of grassroots workers, highlighting their importance in the party's electoral successes. “It’s the booth workers who win elections. Strategists can arrange things, but it’s the workers who know the people and the villages,” she noted.
Under Banerjee’s leadership, the TMC has grown to become a dominant political force in West Bengal, ending the Left Front’s 34-year rule in 2011 and securing three consecutive terms. As speculation about her successor grows, her insistence on collective decision-making appears aimed at maintaining party cohesion during this period of transition.

This statement reflects her broader leadership style, which values inclusivity and grassroots mobilization, even as internal debates over future leadership continue to shape the party's trajectory.
