On Saturday, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant reservations to the Marathas during the upcoming special session of Parliament scheduled for September 18. Uddhav made this appeal in Sarati Antarwali village, one day after unrest broke out in Maharashtra's Jalna.
He further criticized the ongoing tension in Maharashtra's Jalna due to the police's use of batons on protesters advocating for Maratha community reservation. Thackeray intensified his criticism of the Maharashtra government's actions, stating that during their own tenure, there were protests, but no one was subjected to lathi charges.
He also insisted on the withdrawal of all cases against the protesters and urged for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Additionally, Congress leader Ashok Chavan joined the protestors in Sarati Antarwali village and called upon the Central government to amend the law and provide Maratha reservations.
Previously, NCP leader Sharad Pawar met with the injured demonstrators and urged Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to intervene.
On Friday, a confrontation occurred between the police and demonstrators advocating for Maratha reservations in Jalna, leading to the police using baton charges to disperse the protesters.
