NEET UG 2024 ‘Paper Leak’ Case: Supreme Court Postpones Until July 18

The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on NEET UG 2024 paper leak allegations to July 18. The Centre claims no evidence of widespread cheating, while petitioners prepare responses to recent affidavits. The integrity of the exam remains under scrutiny.
The Supreme Court of India has postponed the hearing of the petition over the paper leakage and cheating in National Eligibility cumEntrance Test Under Graduate (NEET UG) 2024 to July 18. The order was passed on 11th July 2024 by the bench presided over by the Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and other two members Justice JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.
This comes in the wake of several petitions that have been presented concerning the alleged malpractice which was made in the Medical entrance examination conducted on the 5th of May, 2024. The court order aims to enable the petitioners to seek more time for the consideration of new papers filed by the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday.
1. The Centre in its affidavit filed on Wednesday said that there was no substance in the allegations of mass cheating or that certain Sections of society get benefited unfairly in NEET-UG 2024.
2. The reader also should know that at the Ministry’s request, IIT Madras conducted data analysis of the exam results. The marks distribution as seen by the experts and researchers are normally distributed or in other words they are bell shaped and are not skewed in any way.
3. The NTA has assessed the marks distribution for NEET-UG 2024 at national, state wise, city wise and center wise level.
4. As per the reports it was stated that for the course admission for the seat of undergraduate for the admission year 2024-25 the counselling will be conducted in four rounds starting from the third week of July.
5. While opposing the cancellation of NEET-UG in their two previous affidavits, the Centre and NTA had warned that changes could lead to a ‘‘negative impact on genuine students’.
6. The exam completed by 23. 34 It is having 33 lakh students in 4750 centres at 571 cities, out of which 14 are foreign countries and it has been charged for paper leakage.
7. Separately, CBI has arrested two more persons from the Bihar capital Patna in connection with the ‘paper leak’ scam.
Previously, on July 8, the Supreme Court had commented that the integrity of NEET-UG 2024 had been breached. However, the NTA has denied the circulation of the paper leak through a video that is circulating on the telegram indicating that the video is a fake one.

:As the case proceeds to the next hearing on July 18, the
court will proceed to consider the responses by the petitioners to the recent
affidavits and make decisions thereon.
