The University Grants
Commission (UGC) has made a significant announcement about the PhD program
admissions process with the commencement of the 2024–2025 academic year.
Graduate institutions are now able to take NET scores into account when selecting candidates for PhD programs. This is being done to expedite the admissions process in accordance with the National Education Policy. By doing this, we might be able to simplify the procedure and eliminate the requirement for several entry exams. The UGC reviewed a recommendation from an expert group tasked with looking over the requirements of the UGC NET exam and made a decision at its 578th meeting on March 13.
The primary means of evaluating candidates for Junior Research Fellowships (JRFs) and associate professorships in the past was the National Eligibility Test (NET). To obtain the announcement for UGC NET June 2024, visit ugcnet.nta.nic.in soon. The National Testing Agency gives the exam twice a year, in June and December.

There will be three categories of qualified candidates for the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) beginning in June 2024. The PhD program admits three types of applicants: those who meet the requirements but do not have a joint research fellowship (JRF) and an assistant professor appointment; those who meet the requirements but do not have a JRF and an assistant professor appointment; and those who do not need any additional requirements at all.
For candidates in categories 2 and 3, the National Eligibility Test (NET) will use the UGC NET scores as 70% of their merit for PhD admissions. The final thirty percent will come from interviews. This combined merit evaluation approach is applicable to categories 2 and 3, and the NET scores are good for a year after that.
