North India remains entrenched in a relentless cold wave, with IMD's projections offering no reprieve for the foreseeable future. Over the past few days, the region, encompassing Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, has been ensconced in a chilling siege. The persistence of dense fog has severely hampered visibility, dropping below 50 meters in certain areas, and disrupting routine life and transportation networks.

The bitter embrace of this cold wave has significantly impacted both air and rail services, resulting in considerable delays and inconveniences. IMD, in its stern warning issued on December 31, alerted regions including Delhi, UP, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan of the intensifying cold, heralding bleak prospects for relief.

According to the meteorological projections, the cold spell is slated to exacerbate from January 5, 2024, extending the enduring freeze. No respite is anticipated until January 11, prolonging the discomfort for residents and travelers alike.

Moreover, the meteorological outlook anticipates a possibility of light rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand within the next 24 hours. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh might experience light rain from December 31 to January 2, while isolated drizzles could occur in Kerala and Lakshadweep. The anticipation of heavy rains in southern Tamil Nadu adds to the dynamic weather patterns.
