An Odisha theatre actor was arrested after killing a live pig on stage and eating its raw meat during a Ramayana performance. The incident, which involved animal cruelty and public display of snakes, has drawn widespread condemnation. Authorities are investigating others involved in the controversial event.

A theatrical performance in Odisha’s Ganjam district took a horrifying turn when Bimbadhar Gouda, a 45-year-old actor portraying a demon in the Ramayana, killed a live pig on stage and consumed its raw meat. The incident, which occurred during the Kanjianal Yatra festival in Ralab village, has sparked outrage, with graphic videos circulating online.
Gouda was arrested for violating the Wildlife Protection Act and animal cruelty laws. An organizer of the event has also been detained, and authorities are pursuing others involved, including individuals who displayed live snakes during the show.

The event has drawn condemnation from animal rights groups and political leaders, who demanded strict action. The Odisha government had previously banned public displays of snakes and other animals, a regulation the performance flagrantly violated.
