Ohio Mother Places Newborn in Garbage Bag; Daughter Lends Helping Hands

Basma Abdul Karim Alkelezli, 36, and her daughter Hanan Al Jabouli, 19, have been arrested following a disturbing event in Hilliard, Ohio. Allegations that Alkelezli put her newborn son in a trash bag and told her daughter to throw him away have led to felony charges of mistreatment of a corpse for both of them.

On September 20th, paramedics responding to a medical issue at the home made the horrifying discovery. They realized that Alkelezli had recently given birth to a child. Officers subsequently searched the area and located the infant in a parked car in the backyard.

The newborn was rushed to Nationwide Children's Hospital, but despite their best attempts, he was proclaimed dead upon arrival. The cause of death will be established using an autopsy.

Al Jabouli told authorities that her mother had recently given birth, but that the infant had died at birth. She admits to helping her mother load the baby into a pail and then into the car. Added charges may be brought as the investigation continues.

Upon being arraigned, Alkelezli was arrested, given a $50,000 bond, and told to hand over her passport. On October 2, she will have her day in court. Hilliard Police Chief Michael Woods has stated that his agency will not rest until the truth about this tragic event has been uncovered, and he has asked that anyone with information get in touch with the authorities.
