Indian Prime
Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Kerala beginning
on Monday. The highlight of his visit is the Yuvam 2023 Conclave organized by
the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kochi, where the Prime Minister will
address young people. He will also participate in a roadshow from the Naval
Airport INS Garuda to the Sacred Hearts College Ground at Thevara in the city.
On Tuesday, the
Prime Minister will travel to Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital, to launch
the Vande Bharat Express, a new train service connecting Thiruvananthapuram and
Kasargod. He will also inaugurate the Kochi Water Metro, an eco-friendly ferry
service that connects the islands near Kochi. Additionally, the Prime Minister
is scheduled to launch various developmental works worth over INR 3200 crore
during the visit.
However, ahead of
the Prime Minister's visit, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI),
the youth wing of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), has
raised 100 questions for him on various issues. The CPI(M) leaders have
demanded a response from the Prime Minister on the Pulwama controversy, among
other issues.
According to
Satyapal Malik, the former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the Pulwama attack,
which witnessed 40 soldiers losing their lives, was a conspiracy. The CPI(M)
leaders have demanded that the Prime Minister and the BJP respond to the
allegations made by Malik. The CPI(M) state secretary, M V Govindan, led a
protest at Kollam while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) convenor, E P
Jayarajan, launched the event at Thiruvananthapuram.
In response,
Govindan has criticized the BJP and the Prime Minister, stating that only
fascists could plan a terrorist attack to fuel nationalism and exploit it for
electoral gains. Moreover, Jayarajan welcomed the Vande Bharat Express but
expressed concerns that the new train service should not impact the regular
timings of daily services, which could affect commuters.
The DYFI has
launched a massive campaign, erecting hundreds of flex boards next to BJP
boards welcoming the Prime Minister, asking him one hundred questions on
various issues faced by the youth and the country, such as unemployment, poor
wages, and sale of public sector companies, among others. The questions also
include topics related to the Pulwama attack, Demonetisation, the 2002 Gujarat
riots, horse trading of legislators, PM Cares Fund, encounter politics, and
rising fuel prices.
All India
President of DYFI and Rajya Sabha MP, A A Rahim, stated that the party was
asking one hundred questions to the Prime Minister, who had not faced a single
press meet in the last nine years. The DYFI has also launched a QR code that
will open the questions to the Prime Minister.
The Prime
Minister's visit to Kerala has generated significant interest, with his public
engagements drawing both support and criticism. The BJP hopes that the Yuvam
2023 Conclave will help to energize young people and win their support in the
upcoming state assembly elections. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) and other opposition
parties are using the visit to criticize the BJP and the Prime Minister on
various issues.
