UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on August 16 highlighted the profound influence of his Hindu faith, asserting that it serves as a guiding light in every facet of his existence. He expressed that his beliefs provide him with the unwavering strength and determination required to fulfill his duties as the Prime Minister of Britain.
Sunak emphasized how his faith empowers him to make decisions that align with his values and uphold the well-being of the nation. This perspective, deeply rooted in his spiritual convictions, continues to shape his leadership approach, underscoring his commitment to serving his country with unwavering dedication and integrity.
Having recently returned from a family vacation
in the United States, accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty and their children
Krishna and Anoushka, Mr. Sunak conveyed a deep sense of pride in both his
British identity and his Hindu heritage. Reminiscing about his formative years
in Southampton, he recalled the cherished moments spent at his neighborhood
temple, often accompanied by his family.
He shared, "My childhood in Southampton is adorned with cherished recollections of our local mandir. Within those walls, my parents and extended family orchestrated havans, pujas, and aartis. Following these spiritual practices, I would eagerly assist in serving lunch and distributing prasad, alongside my brother, sister, and cousins," Sunak recounted. These experiences from his past continue to hold a special place in his heart, shaping his connection to both his cultural roots and his community.
The principles that guide us and the actions I
witness Bapu undertake daily reflect ideals of selfless service, unwavering
devotion, and steadfast faith. Among these, the pinnacle value is duty, or sewa
as we recognize it. These Hindu values seamlessly align with the core values of
Britain, emphasizing a shared commitment to service," he emphasized.
As I depart today, the teachings of 'Ramayana' that Bapu imparts remain etched in my mind, alongside the wisdom of the 'Bhagavad Gita' and the devotion of the 'Hanuman Chalisa'. In my perspective, Lord Ram stands as an enduring symbol of inspiration, guiding us to confront life's trials with unwavering bravery, to govern with humility, and to engage in selfless endeavors," Mr. Sunak conveyed.
To conclude his address, the British PM invoked the resonant phrase 'Jai Siya Ram,' signifying victory to Lord Ram and his consort Sita. He proceeded to join an aarti on stage, where Morari Bapu invoked the blessings of Lord Hanuman, beseeching for boundless strength to bolster his dedicated service to the people of Britain.
