In the course of the hearing of the case at the CBI court, the prosecution disclosed a startling revelation that the bones and other ashes, which the police claimed belonged to Sheena Bora that went missing in Raigad, Maharashtra. These were uttered during the continuation of the legal battle of the much-publicized murder case.

Sheena Bora, aged 24 years, is said to have been killed in the year April 2012 and the murder was discovered in 2015. Sheena’s mother Indrani Mukerjea is the main accused in the case and she is on bail now as she got some relief from Supreme Court in May 2022.

Special public prosecutor CJ Nandode informed the court that despite search, articles including bones and other parts of the remains of the victim’s body which were taken by the forensic expert witness are not traceable. The prosecution wanted to cross examine the witness and the CBI court listed the matter for June 27 when the prosecution did not produce the missing articles and the CBI court posted the matter.

According to prosecution, Indrani Mukerjea and her former husband, Sanjeev Khanna abducted Sheena Bora on 24th April 2012 from Bandra. They then, it is alleged, smothered her to death in a car owned by accused Shyamwar Rai, who later became a witness to the crime. It was said that the body was taken to a nearby forest near Gagode village in the Raigad district the following day.

Although the body of Bora was found by the local police soon after within days, the real planning of the murder was brought to light only on August 21, 2015, when Rai, who was caught for another crime, revealed about the murder during his interrogation. The CBI started the investigation of the case from September 2015 and arrested Peter Mukerjea, Indrani’s husband for conspiracy in the murder case. The police stated that both Peter and Indrani were unhappy about Sheena’s relationship with Rahul who was Peter’s son from the first marriage.

The absence of bones and remains, which are believed to be more ‘evidential’ has raised eyebrows on how the case was handled. This development is going to have a dramatic effect on the ongoing trial, and it is still quite uncertain in which way the court is going to proceed with the articles not being presented.
