Indian Wrestlers Continue Protests Against Wrestling Body Boss Accused of Sexual Assault

Indian wrestlers have been toiling for their basic rights of dignity and respectful treatment irrespective of gender since 23rd April 2023. Despite facing huge hurdles such as violent police strikes and oppression by political parties, the Indian wrestlers have managed to attain a stage of global debate on the matter.

International Wrestling Body, United World Wrestling Takes Cognizance of Indian Wrestlers’ Struggle

The International Wrestling Body has recently released a statement in which it expressed its heartfelt concern for Indian wrestlers. The statement read, “last days are even more worrying that the wrestlers were arrested and temporarily detained by the police for initiating a march of protest.”

The United World Wrestling has also voiced out its vehement discontent with the inaction of the Indian authorities. It urged for a speedy and unbiased resolution of the matter to be undertaken by relevant authorities.

Negative Sanctions Announced by The International Wrestling Body

United World Wrestling has set a 45 day deadline for action to be taken after which the body will take action against the Wrestling Federation of India. The body warned, “Failing to do so may lead United World Wrestling to suspend the federation, thereby forcing the athletes to compete under a neutral flag. It is reminded that United World Wrestling already took a measure in this situation by reallocating the Asian Championship planned in New Delhi earlier this year.”
