A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Telangana’s Mulugu district early Wednesday, with tremors felt across neighboring Maharashtra, including Nagpur, Gadchiroli, and Chandrapur. According to the National Center for Seismology, the quake occurred at 7:27 am and is being described as one of the strongest ever recorded in Telangana.
Residents of Maharashtra reported mild tremors in areas such as Ballarpur and other tehsils near the Telangana border. Chandrapur Collector Vinay Gowda reassured the public, urging them to stay calm and seek open spaces if tremors reoccur. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) clarified that light tremors can typically be felt within a 200-300 km radius from the epicenter.
Social media was abuzz with reactions, with many users expressing their shock at the intensity of the quake. One user noted it was the strongest earthquake in Telangana in the last two decades, with tremors even reaching Hyderabad.
