Twitter is taking further measures to reduce spam on its platform by restricting direct messages (DMs) for unverified accounts. Elon Musk's Twitter account will soon limit the number of DMs an unverified account can send to combat spam. Twitter announced this update on Saturday, aiming to encourage users to sign up for their paid service, Twitter Blue, which will not have daily restrictions on DMs.
While the company has not revealed specific details about the limits it plans to impose, it is a part of their ongoing efforts to combat spam in DMs. Last week, Twitter introduced a feature that restricted unverified accounts from sending texts to users who do not follow them, which reportedly reduced DM spam by 70%.
Earlier, Musk temporarily limited the number of tweets users could view per day to address data scraping and system manipulation. Unverified accounts can now read up to 800 posts, while verified accounts can view up to 10,000 tweets.
However, Twitter faced controversies with its recent policy changes. It initially prevented users from seeing tweets and comments on the web without logging into an account, but the move was later reversed.
Twitter Blue, the company's attempt to expand profits beyond advertising, offers a monthly fee of ₹650 for users in India on the web service, while mobile devices cost ₹900 per month. Brands can also subscribe to the 'Verified for Organisations' program, starting at $1,000 per month.
These recent updates and changes aim to create a better user experience on Twitter by reducing spam and ensuring the platform's integrity. As Twitter continues to evolve under Musk's ownership, it remains to be seen how these policies will impact the overall user engagement and interaction on the platform.
