Uma Shanti, an integral member of the music ensemble 'Shanti People,' renowned for their fusion of EDM (electronic dance music) with Vedic mantras, found herself at the center of controversy due to an alleged incident involving the national flag. The incident unfolded during a musical gathering hosted at a restaurant-bar establishment situated in Pune's Mundhwa area on the eve of Independence Day (August 14).

During her performance, Shanti, who had been holding the tricolor and enthusiastically waving it, unexpectedly tossed the flag into the audience, as detailed by an official from the Mundhwa police station. This incident led to serious repercussions.

Both Uma Shanti and the event organizer, Kartik More, have been formally charged under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Maharashtra Police Act. These legal actions have been taken in response to the perceived insult to the national flag.

In the aftermath of the incident, both the singer and the event organizer have been issued notices, urging their participation in the ongoing investigation. This development underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the matter, aiming to ensure that the national flag and its dignity are upheld in accordance with the law.
