Uttarakhand on High Alert As IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall in Eight Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a yellow alert indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall in eight districts situated within Uttarakhand.
The weather authority has specifically cautioned about heavy rainfall in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Champawat districts.
In its prediction for the anticipated heavy rainfall, the IMD mentioned the districts of Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar as well.
Due to the heavy rains that were continuing since Monday night in the Dehradun district. A tragic incident took place earlier today as a segment of the Shri Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, situated near the banks of the Tamsa River, collapsed.
Acharya Bipin Joshi, the temple's founder, informed on Tuesday that the temple complex had incurred significant damage as a consequence of the collapse, which occurred due to the relentless rainfall experienced throughout the previous night.
He also revealed that the rise of the Tamsa River due to the continuous rainfall prompted the complete evacuation of the temple premises to ensure the safety of all. Acharya further mentioned, "All the deities of Lord Ganesha Maharaj, Mata Vaishno Devi, Ram Darbar, Hanuman Ji Maharaj, Lakshmi Narayan Bhagwan were also put to sleep." Although the temple's structure has suffered damage, he assured that no human lives have been lost, and there have been no reports of injuries as a result of the incident.
On Sunday, Uttarakhand police reported a tragedy that struck Gaurikund as a devastating landslide occurred, claiming the lives of three individuals. The search operation for the individuals who are still missing is currently in progress.
Providing details about the unfortunate incident, Ashok Kumar, the Director General of Police in Uttarakhand, informed ANI that the tragedy resulted in the confirmed deaths of three people. Additionally, a total of 20 individuals are still missing in the aftermath of the massive landslide that took place on the Kedarnath Yatra route within the Gaurikund area. The DGP further informed," 17 of the missing people are of Nepali origin. Search operation of the police and SDRF is underway.”
Ranjit Sinha, the Secretary of Disaster Management in Uttarakhand, and Vinay Shankar Pandey, the Commissioner of Garhwal Mandal, along with the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rudraprayag, are supervising the ongoing search and rescue efforts for locating the missing individuals.
