Mathura police made a very weird claim that rats "ate" over 500 kilograms of marijuana seized and stored in Shergarh and Highway Police channels.

This claim was made by Mathura Police to a special Narcotic Medication and Psychotropic Substances Act (1985) court. He statement was indeed strange enough to be in the highlights of all the media channels.

The Additional District Judge first instructed Mathura SSP Abhishek Yadav to eradicate the "mice menace," and then demanded that he provide documentation demonstrating that the rodents had in fact ingested 60 lakh rupees worth of marijuana, weighing 581 kg.

However this claim has not gone down well with the Court and it has called for the corroborative evidence in support of the statement made by the police.

Additionally, the court has provided five-point guidelines for the sale and disposal of marijuana kept in police storage facilities.

Senior Superintendent Of Police (SSP), Mathura claimed, "time-bound action will be taken in compliance with the court orders."

Rats allegedly destroyed 581 kg of marijuana stored in warehouses, according to the SHOs of the Highway and Shergarh police stations.

The police have been unable to safeguard the substances kept in the aforementioned storage areas. The next hearing date has been set for November 26 and the court has ordered the police to present evidence in support of the claim, according to special public prosecutor Ranveer Singh.

According to information provided by the government attorney for the court, the court's order dated November 18 made reference to a case involving the Highway police station in which  recovered marijuana was destroyed by rats.

Rats don't fear the police because of their small size, according to the Mathura police's clarification. SHOs are limited in their ability to solve all issues.

Three men were detained in Mathura in May 2020 while transporting marijuana in a truck. A truck carrying 386 kg of marijuana concealed in millet bags was stopped near the village of Jatwari in the Shergarh region. The three suspects were taken into custody  and booked under the NDPS Act.
