A devastating road accident on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway claimed the lives of 10 Maha Kumbh devotees and left 19 others injured around midnight on Friday. The accident occurred near the Meja police station when a Bolero car carrying pilgrims from Chhattisgarh collided head-on with a bus transporting devotees from Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh.

Authorities suspect that the driver of the Bolero dozed off at the wheel, resulting in the fatal crash. DCP Yamunanagar Vivek Chandra Yadav confirmed that the deceased were taken to Swaroop Rani Nehru Medical Hospital for post-mortem, while the injured are receiving medical attention.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and directed officials to provide immediate relief and medical assistance to the injured. He also instructed local authorities to expedite investigations and ensure that safety measures are reinforced on highways.

The accident follows another tragic crash earlier this week in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur, where seven Maha Kumbh devotees lost their lives when their mini-bus collided with a truck. A separate collision in Bihar’s Kaimur district also claimed three lives, raising concerns about road safety for pilgrims traveling to and from the Maha Kumbh Mela.
