An Air India flight with 225 people including passengers and 19 crew members on board the Delhi-San Francisco route was diverted to Moscow on Friday over a possible technical snag. Flight AI183 was reporting an irregularity in the vicinity of the cargo hold and decided to perform an emergency landing at Krasnoyarsk International Airport in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk Krai.

Air India assured everyone that all the passengers are safe and require the required help. The airline said, “due to absence of Air India staff at KJA, we have hired third party to support us in helping all the passengers. ”

The carrier is currently trying to find a ferry flight so that the passengers can be taken to their destination in San Francisco as soon as possible. Air India is also in touch with the concerned government bodies and regulatory bodies for handling the crisis.

The airline said in a statement: ‘‘All of us at Air India are anxious about the passengers and the staff and are doing everything we can to get the ferry flight in the air as soon as we can and ensure the health, safety and security of all of you as you wait. ’’

This is not the first time an Air India has been diverted on this particular route; last year one of its aircrafts flying on the same route was diverted to Magadan in Russia because of technical issues. Thus, passengers had to spend two days in tents and other temporary structures before a new flight was brought in to complete the journey.

In the meantime, as the situation unfolds, Air India has assured the public of updates continually. Its main and continued concern is about the health of all passengers and the crew members who have been involved in this rather unwarranted deviation.

It showcases how airlines are prone to such mishaps while operating on long-haul flights and the need to respond and handle passengers as soon as possible in the event of an occurrence of such a situation.
