In light of the sad news of Nitin Desai's passing, Akshay Kumar has decided to postpone the highly anticipated first trailer release of OMG 2 as a gesture of respect. The film is scheduled for a theatrical debut on August 11.
In a Wednesday afternoon tweet, Akshay expressed his deep sorrow over Nitin Desai's passing. He acknowledged Nitin's significant contributions to production design and his immense impact on the cinema fraternity. Given their collaboration on several films, Akshay considered it a profound loss. Out of respect, the OMG 2 trailer release was postponed, and he announced it would be launched tomorrow at 11 am. The news of art director Nitin Desai's demise by suicide, known for his iconic sets in blockbuster films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Lagaan, was confirmed by the Mumbai Police. He was discovered at his studio in Mumbai.
OMG 2, a sequel to Umesh Shukla's 2012 film OMG, featured Paresh Rawal as a businessman and Akshay Kumar as the Hindu God Krishna.Directed by Amit Rai, OMG 2 stars Pankaj Tripathi as a devotee of Shiva, while Yami Gautam portrays a lawyer. The film is set for a significant box office clash with Sunny Deol's Gadar 2, both releasing on the same day.
The initial teaser and posters for the second part of the film depicted Akshay as Lord Shiva. However, there have been reports stating that his character has been altered to that of a "doot" or Messenger of God.
Recent days saw rumors circulating about OMG 2 facing difficulties with the Central Board of Film Certification, leading to speculations about a possible delay in the film's release. However, on Tuesday, Ajit Andhare, COO of Viacom 18 Studios, the film's distribution house, put all the rumors to rest by announcing that the film has received clearance from the censors and will be released as originally scheduled.
