The ICC officially declared that equal prize money would be given to both men's and women's teams in the ICC events during the ICC (International Cricket Council) held in Durban, South Africa held on Thursday, 13th July, 2023.

 

The secretary of BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) announced with thrill that the long-standing discrimination had now subsided and a new era had been established. The decision fulfilled the ICC's commitment to reach prize money equity by the year 2030.

 

ICC has declared that both men's and women's teams will be awarded equal prize money in Global events.

He also thanked his fellow Board members for their support to achieve this important endeavor.

 

With this decision both the teams will be awarded equal prize money to men's and women's champions, runners ups and equivalent finishing positions at global events, from the next cycle.

ICC chair Greg Barclay, stated that he was delighted that both the teams would be awarded equally and considered this decision as a significant moment in the history of cricket. He also mentioned that the Council had been increasing prize money on women's events since 2017 with an aim to achieve equality and from here on both men's and women's teams would be awarded the same prize money.

 

Barclay also quoted that Cricket is a game for all and this decision reinforces the value of every player's contribution to the game.
