This most recent advancement is in line with Apple's larger plan. It is to internalize its technology's design and development processes. Apple relies significantly on outside partners such as LG Display and Samsung SDI Co. This is despite the fact that the tech giant already incorporates customizable panels into its products. Apple made a calculated decision to bring display manufacturing in-house. They did this in order to gain a competitive advantage.

The hardware engineering team at Apple started working on a Microled Technology internally. They code-named it T159 around seven years ago. The project was then turned over to Wei Chen He is the chief of Apple's display division. The issues continued despite the significant expenditures. The construction of a specialist screen manufacturing facility in Santa Clara, California was included as well.
